Yanks visit Disneyland as a big doubleheader sweep in Kansas City. The Angels embarrassingly dropped 2 of 3 to the woeful Senators. Both clubs need to get moving in the right path soon.

Top 1, Yanks get off fast as Horace Clarke sneaks a double down the right field line. Tommy Tresh promptly singled him home for the the run of the contest. New York wasted a bases loaded opportunity in the 2nd when Clarke hit into a DP. In fact the Pinstripers gad runners on in each inning if the contest as Willhite proved the theory that a double play is the pitchers best friend. Talbot himself only had one clean inning , twice working out to bases jammed trials. Bottom six, the Halos strung together three singles, Satriano picking up the RBI to tie the game. Bottom 7, Hal Reniff came on and it got ugly quick. Fregosi walked with one out and raced home on a triple by Jimmie Hall. Reiechardt got Hall home with a single, scoring awhile later on a Satriano double. Knoop put up the 4th run driving home Satriano. Bottom 8, Fregosi tagged Reniff with solo shot bumping the lead to 6-1. Top 9, Charley smith and John Kennedy doubled for a run, and Clarke singled home another making this contest interesting. With 2 on, one out, Rojas got Tresh looking, Mantle looked to have tied the game but his sky high drive died on the warning track for the last out.

It’s the rubber game here at the big A between two teams dwelling toward the bottom of the standings. Both teams desperate for a win , not to mention the downtrodden Pete Richert.

Top one the Cap City boys get off fast, Saverine singles and flies home on a triple by lead footed Jim King, surprising the official scorer didn’t rule that a hit and an error. Angels went down in order in the first but loaded the bases on three singles but came away empty. Bottom 3, Fregosi tied the score with a solo shot, his third. Angels took the lead in the 5th, adding three, Cardinal tripling in a lair then scoring on a Reichardt single. Playing with pride, the Nats came right back in the top of the 6th as a pair of walks put two on. Valentine grounded into a Dp and when King lifted a fly to left the inning looked over but Reichardt somehow dropped the easy fly allowing a run to score. Hondo then teed off on McGlothlin driving a two run bomb into the lower box seats in left tying the game. Top 8 with Bill Kelso in, Howard went yard again putting the visitors up two. A Knoop single got the Halos within one but that is where it would end, the Senators getting 2 of 3 before heading East.

Darrell Knowles came on in relief in the 8th after the Knoop single to face Don Mincher and picked off Knoop to end the inning, Reichardt has a 7 game hit streak where he is batting .519 going 14 finer 27. Knoop had 5 RBIs in the series.

Yanks go for the sweep in KC but Jim Hunter will have something to say about it. New York employs another lefty, this time fireballs Al Downing.

Yanks go in order in their part if the 1st. Campaneris lead off with a single for the A’s the swiped second. Rick Monday delivered an RBI single and KC was off and running. Top 4, Tresh and Mantle had back to back doubles to tie the game and one out later, Whitaker put the Bombers ahead with another two bagger. Steve then raced home on Jake Gibbs first RBI, a single to right. Bottom 4, Cater singled and Charles was nailed on the shoulder but nothing came of it. A second a Tresh double and another RBI hit by Stevie Wonder made it a three run lead. The home club wasted doubles in the 6th and 7th as Downing set down the last 9 he faced for his first win of the season.

Nice sweep of the doubleheader by New York, giving the Yanks a four game winning streak. Steve Whitaker now leads the team with 13 RBI’s. Overall, he is hitting .468 as he platoons with Bill Robinson. On the other side, the Yanks shortstop and third basemen are hitting a mere .100 (12-120). Danny Cater has a nine game hitting streak.

Mother Nature reeked havoc on Friday and Saturday, washing out those game and prompting twin bill today. The Chairman of the Board goes for the Pinstripers whole lady year’s Topps Rookue if the Year, Jim Nash puts his unbeaten streak on the line.

The game started as a pitchers duel, Nash collecting three scoreless innings and Whitey permitting a mere single through six shutout innings. Top 4, Yanks broke the seal but only through the generosity of the hosts. Nash walked Mickey the plunked Pepitone. He then got the next 2 but Ed Charles muffed an easy grounder allowing the Commerce Comet to streak home for the first run of the contest. The Yanks added three the following inning, Ford singles and Clarke drew a walk. Similar to the previous inning, Nash got the next 2 but Pepitone drove one in the gap plating a pair then waltzed home on a Whitaker knock. Top 7, Ellie Howard deposited a Duliba offering into the left field seats making the lead 6. Bottom 7, Cater doubled and Ed Charles drew a walk. Dick Green then ripped into a Whitey meatball halving the lead. Top 9, the Yanks reminded Wes Stock why he is now a coach. Two walks and an error loaded the bases for Ellie Howard who knew what to do, a gram slam. Tom Tresh climaxed the inning with a two run triple putting the game out of reach.

It’s the rubber game between these first division clubs. Jim Kaat, who looks as if he picked up when he left off in 1966 when he won 25 games goes for the home club. Denny Bennett goes against him.

Reggie Smith got the game rocking with a moonshot into the bleachers to open the game. George Thomas walked and with 2 outs, Demeter singled him to third. Rico Oetrocelli drove both in with a ringing double putting up a three spot on Kaat. Bottom 1, Mike Andrews booted the first ball hit to him, one out later, Versalles drove him home with a double to the gap. Top three, the Sawx nicked Kitty for another run. Thomas took one off the elbow and Scott singled. Two outs later Andrews atoned for his miscues by singling in the run. Bottom 6, the Twinkies started something brewing as Tovar singled and two outs later raced home on Killebrew two bagger. Allison ripped a single to center getting Killer chugging along but third base coach Billy Martin put up the stop sign leaving runners on 1st and 3rd. Bennett the nailed Ron Clark Square in the back loading the bases. Dick Williams brought Dan Osinski to face the righty Andy Kosco, but Sam Mele countered with Ted Uhlaender. Osinski won the war getting Ted to ground out snuffing out the rally. Top 7, Don Demeter went yark on Jim Merritt bumping the lead to 6-2. Twins trick to claw its was back in on an RBI double by Carew but that would be all she wrote giving the Boston club the win and series.

Back at it in the motor city as the Birds try to finish the sweep of the hometowners. Detroit is in the midst of their first losing streak, sliding further away from the Pale Hose who currently reside in the penthouse.

Top 1, Sparma got two quick outs then lost the plate walking the Robinson boys. John ‘Boog’ Powell then went upper deck for nice 3-0 lead. The Bengals came roaring back on McNally, Wert opened with a single and one out later Kaline also singled. Willie Horton punched one into shallow left for a run and Northrup laced one to right for another making this quickly one run game. A passed ball put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Freehan was gifted a free pass and the strategy initially blocked good as Cash whiffed. Light hitting Ray Oyler ruined the plan by singling to center for two more, eliminating the Baltimore lead, putting the home club up one. However, Sparma could not stand prosperity as he walked McNally leading off the 2nd. Aparicio singled but Snyder whiffed. Frank Robby then muscled up, putting one into the left center seats tilting the contest in favor of the Birds. Rattled, Sparma then walked Brooks and Boog giving Blefary the RBI chance of which he delivered. Bottom 3, McNally gave one back on an RBI double by Oyler. Bottom 5, Horton singled and chugged all the way home on a triple by Northrup which chased McNally from the game. Moe Drabowsky came on and Freehan drove Blefary to the edge of the wall, tying the game on a sac fly. After that the bullpens took over, Detroit with 7 scoreless innings and Drabowsky and Watt matching them for Baltimore. Top 10, Haney doubled then Epstein picked up an infield single. Aparicio walked to load the bases for Russ Snyder who delivered a Two run single putting the O’s back on top. Frank then crushed his second big fly of the game virtually putting the game out of reach. Eddie Fisher came in in the 10th guaranteeing the sweep.

His two homer game capped a terrific week for Frank Robinson. by going an extra frame, Brooks Robinson got a chance to extend his hitting streak, which he did. It now sits at 7games. Detroit now has dropped 4 straight. Their bullpen went 7 1/3 shutout innings before Gladding spit the bit in the 10th

Saturday night in Southern California brings together two ne’er do well teams. The DC club is marginally enjoying baseball life a bit better away from the Capital and look to make it 2 straight versus the Angels.

The Senators jump right into it as Bob Severine parachutted a double between three fielders leading off the game. Jim King drew a one out walk to set up a true threat. Bob Chance worked a free pass to load the bases but the rally looked over when McMullen sent a two hopper to short that ole’d into two runs. Casanova singled, putting the Nats up 3-0. Bottom 1, Moore got two quick outs before Casanova bobbled a nubber opening the door. Two singles later, the Halos got their first run, the RBI going to Knoop. Bottom 3, Knoop followed a pair of singled to close the deficit to one. Bottom 4, Johnstone singles and Fregosi atoned for his earlier sin by depositing a Moore offering into the left field seats. Bottom 5, Don Mincher greeted new pitcher Bob Priddy with a solo shot adding to the Cherubs lead. Bottom 8, two singles and a free pass set up Knoop again and, sure enough, he flared a single to right center for 2 more runs. Rickey Clark was solid albeit a tad wild going 7 before yielding to Minnie Rojas who got the last 6.
