They still held a 6-4 lead entering the bottom the 8th when the Sox plated five culminating in a George Scott home run. Johnny Wyatt, the last of six Beantown pitchers got the win.

Cleveland put up a 5 spot in the 3rd chasing knuckleballer Wilbur Wood from the game as Don Demeter delivered the deciding blow. It was all Sonny Siebert would need (and consequently, all he would get) as the righty went the distance on a three hit complete game thus earning a split of the two-night doubleheader.

The Athletics jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the nightcap of this doubleheader only to watch the Senators chip away getting to within one at 6-5 going into the bottom of the 8th. There the most unlikely of heroes, Doug Camilli, emerged cracking a two run homer to square the night for the home club.

The Angels flew east and boy do they wish they hadn’t. Although they broke on top first, but the Bosox put up runs in every inning from the 2nd thru 7th, pummeling Rickey Clark and Clyde Wright. Every position player had a hit except catcher Russ Gibson. But the biggest day was had by Reggie Smith as he found his long ball prowess!

The visiting Twins put up a 5 spot in the top of the first then watched as the Angel chipped away until in the end the Halos got the last run they needed in the bottom of the 9th, walk off style. Neither starting pitching acquitted themselves in this one, just turned out that whoever batted last won. After the first Angel pitchers held the Twins scoreless surrendering on,y one hit.

NOTES.: Poor Rich Reese, playing out of position, butchered the liner Bubba Morton hit at him which allowed the winning run to score. Woody Held had quite a game filled in quite nicely for Jim Fregosi still out with a slight groin pull. Woody is hitting .310 as a Cherub. Another trade line acquisition, Roger Repoz also playing well as half his hits have gone for extra bases. Zolio Versalles collected more RBIs in this game than he had in all of June and July. With the loss the Twins fell into 4th place and have lost 5 games in the standings to the White Sox in July.
