Wrapping up the doubleheader before heading to Minneapolis, the Orioles are looking for a sweep of the day and the road trip. Bonus Baby Steve Barber gets his first start of the season against Mexican league star Jorge Rubio.

Once again the Birds get there scoring started as Brooks Robinson launched one into the bleachers for an early lead. Two innings later Boog Powell matched it for his first doubling the lead. Barber navigated choppy waters thru three leaving base runners in his wake. Bottom 4 he got Reichardt to ground to short. Cardenal followed with a single making Mincher’s shot a game tying two run homer. Two singles and a walk loaded the base fir Jim Fregosi who took care of 2 of them with a single to right-center. Bottom 5, the Halos tacked on an insurance tally off Steve Dillman, Buck Rodgers singling in Cardenal upping the lead to 5-2. Rubio ran into trouble in the 6th a single and 2 free passes loaded the bases for the Boog. Powell lifted a fly to short-ish right and Billy Hunter sent Paul Blair who was nipped at the plate in a bang-bang play. Plate ump Red Flattery stood his ground despite a loud protest by both Hunter and Mgr Hank Bauer. A 7th inning double by Mincher and a second RBI by Rodgers closed out the scoring, giving a much needed win to the home club.
