John Hiller’s no hit streak ended with his first batter of the game and was down a run when the inning finished. Eddie Matthews finally paid dividends for the Bengals, sending one into the right field seats to put the visitors ahead. They tacked on another but Ken Boyer, a thorn in the side of Detroit all weekend drove in a pair to tie the score. The contest went to overtime and the Sox must have felt good have old reliable Hoyt Wilhelm on the bump. But he did not have it this day as his wildness with the the knuckleball and pesky Ray Oyler did him and the Pale Hose in.

The Senators grabbed an early 3-0 lead off Jim McGlothlin but the Angels threatened to grab bsck the lead in each of the first 4 innings as they two stranded in each. Later the Nats added a pair and Camilo Pascual seized the opportunity, settling down to allow only one base runner in the last 5 for a complete game victory. Picking up his first shutout and 3rd complete game.

It was the tale of two pitches, one from each starter. Bill Dillman wishes he had the fastball he fed Tony Oliva back, as Tony gave Jim Kaat an early lead. Kaat, for his part, got nicked for a single in the third and who would have known, it would be the only safety he would allow in route of a one hit complete game shutout.

With his 9 whiffs, he is in third overall in the Junior Circuit. Not only does Bobby Allison have a five game hit streak, he has extra base hits in all 5 also. Dave Morehead whiffed Horace Clarke to open the game and before he came up for air, the Yanks plated 7 capped off by a rare Ruben Amaro home run. But the Bosox are not the best team in the league for nothing, putting up 5 run to sneak close as Steve Barber struggled to last long enough to qualify for a win. It became a one run game by the end of the 7th but that would be as close as the Sox got, as the Yanks snagged the victory.

The home club grabbed the lead in the 5th on this overcast night and that would be very critical and the skies opened up and washed away any chance of Kaycee catching up shortening the contest to 7 innings.
