After dropping two out of three to the bottom dwelling Yankees, the Sox jumped all over former Pale Hoser Fred Talbot who scored three runs after just the first four batters, lead by a lead off homer by Tommy Agee. The Southsiders added another to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Bronx Bombers erased that deficit in the 4th and 5th by plating 10 runs lead by Mickey Mantle renowned slugging. With his depleted bullpen, Mgr. Ralph Houk turned to Al Downing who tossed six innings in relief to secure the win.
