The Athletics jumped out in front on a Phil Roof homer but the Senators took back the lead in the 8th as a Campaneris error opened the flood gates which Jack Aker could not close. Leading 6-3 going into the bottom of the 9th when Phil Roof did it again, his hinder driving the game into extra innings. The visitors cracked through in the 14th to finally win this one.

Bill Freehan homered in the 6th to spoil Pete Richert’s attempt at a shutout then as the game stretched into overtime, the University of Michigan star drove home the game winner, walk off style in the 10th.

And it looked like it might be enough as Dave Wickersham was totally in control allowing only three runners thru 7 innings. Mgr. Mayo Smith inexplicably sent Mike Marshall to start the 8th and Blair took him deep to tie the game. Three batters later, the Orioles had the lead and ultimately the victory.

That’s all Barry Moore needed as he tossed six one run innings to get the win. Bob Humphreys made it a ball game but Dave Baldwin came to the rescue to salvage the final game of the set.
