In real life August 18, 1967 was the last game of the 1967 season for Tony Conigliaro as he was beaned by Jack Hamilton ending his very promising campaign. Here is the comparison of his real results with the legend of the dice and boards.
The Sox jumped out to a three run lead curtosy of a bases clearing triple by rookie Reggie Smith. The Angels clawed back to tie in the 5th but that was short lived as the Beantowners grabbed the lead again. Top 8, the Halos ambushed Sparky Lyle playing 5 to snag the opening game of this weekend series.

The rubber game of the series went to the visitors on the strength of the bat of left fielder Willie Horton who drove in three off Jim Lonborg. Norm Cash went deep to deepen the cushion. Earl Wilson cruised into the 8th with shutout until Yaz put one into the right field bleachers to ruin the whitewash.

He also registered a season low of strikeouts.

NOTES: In this game, the key players in the blockbuster trade from December 2,1966 were the story here. On the plus side for the Cherubs, the two lefty sluggers produced all the runs. In fact, Jimmy Hall had one helluva series. Adding his 4-4 in this game, Hall collected 2 doubles, 3 homers, driving in 4 while hitting .727 (8-11), including the game winning RBI in this contest.
Ken “Hawk” Harrelson deposited the first pitch he saw from Gary Peters over the left field wall giving the Athletics and quick and early 3-0 lead. The Pale Hose chipped away off Johnny “ Blue Moon” Odom finally tying it in their half of the 5th. Kaycee used the legs of Bert Campaneris to generate a run in the 8th and recent call up Bill Staffird made sure it sufficed, give the second division A’s a three game sweep against the penthouse residents.

The ultimate pitchers duel came down to the fielding prowess or lack thereof of one of the two starters. An errant throw resulting in a two base error gave Max Alvis the opportunity to deliver the only run of the game. The Washington club did not go quietly as they loaded the bases in the 9th on a single, error and a walk with nobody out. Hargan proceeded to whiff Freddy Valentine then induce Dick Nen to tap into a 1-2-3 double play to end the game.
