A quintessential pitching duel only made better by the fact that both teams are deadlocked in first place. Yet, each team had their chances to breakthrough. The Pale Hose had Jim Lonborg on the ropes in 5 of his 8 innings yet he wriggled off the hook each time. George Scott put one on Landsdowne street to give a meager lead to the home club but the Six of another color roared back, loading the bases on a single, walk and error. Mgr Dick Williams gave Lonborg the hook, bringing in Sparky Lyle to try to get the last two outs. Lyle gave us an early sign to his future by getting two pop ups to put Boston over.
