The Orioles laid the lumber on Catfish Hunter as both Paul Blair and Curt Blefary went deep giving the Birds a quick 3-0 lead. The Athletics nicked Pete Richert for a couple runs in the 4th but after that the scoring faucet turned off. Moe Drabowsky nailed down a nine out save preserving the Duke for the O’s.

NOTES: Third straight strong start by Pete Richert who up to this point was having a miserable season. He has only allowed 4 earned runs in last 23 innings. Paul Blair ripped his 12th triple allowing him to vault into the league lead. Moe Drabowsky fanned 7 in getting a 9 out save. Mgr. Hank Bauer might need a word with Third base coach Billy Hunter after seeing Brooks Robinson being cut down twice trying fir an extra base, once at the plate and once at 3rd.
