The long layoff due to military service finally caught with with Mickey Lolich as the Angels pounded out 5 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. That was enough for the Cherubs as Jack Hamilton went six strong innings, his only blemish was a solo shot by Dick McAuliffe although things got interesting in the 8th as Pete Cimino left a mess for Bill Kelso who handled it aplomb fanning all four batters he faced to give game 1 to the Halos
