Bert Campaneris got the A’s rolling in the 1st by legging out a three base hit and waltzed home on a double by John Donaldson. The slim lead held fast until the 6th when the home club added a pair to their advantage, capitalizing on Joe Sparma’s wildness. Roberto Rodriguez held the Tigers in check for 6 innings, hopeful the bullpen could hold the lead. Eddie Matthews found the hill in right to get the Bengals close in the 9th but Krw Krausse slammed the door allowing the Athletics to steal the series.
