The Red Sox grabbed an early 2-0 lead only to see it erased by a three run blast by Ron Hansen. Tne Beantowners tied it up when Scott drive in Yaz the grabbed the lead again. But, once again Hansen put the Windy City boys ahead with his third homer on the day. Top 9 Bob Locker tried to nail down the win but Mike Andrews went deep to send this one into overtime. Both teams had their chances in every extra inning only to fail. Until the top of the 18th and go figure, of all things, the eventual winning run scored when Don McMahon uncorked a wild pitch sending Rico Petrocelli scampering across the plate.

NOTES: Four games weren’t enough for these beasts so the went overtime for the length of another 9 innings. Darrell Brandon went 5 innings to get the win. Mike Andrews homered in both games of the twin bill, the one in this game tied it up in the 9th. He then struck out his next 4 at bats. Speaking of K’s, Rico Petrocelli now has whiffed in 12 straight games. Ron Hansen had all the Chisox RBIs. Ron also homered three times in the double dip. Rocky Colavito went 0-20 in the last two series versus the Red Sox. Don Buford had a rough week, going 4-39 for a meager .103 batting average
