The home club scratched out a run in the 1st then the flood gates opened against Jim Merritt in the 4th highlighted by a homer by Tony Horton. The Indians continued to bludgeon the Minnesota relief corps, adding another 5 runs to cap a convincing 10-1 win.

NOTE: The Indians sent the Twins to their 9th loss in the last 10 games, capping a truly awful month of August in which the Minnesota club fell out of the pennant race. In the prochess, the Indians leapfrogged them into 4th place. With Luis Tiant going 3-4, the Indians pitchers had quite a hitting week, going 8-19 (.421) forbthe week, spearheaded by Looie Tiant going 4-6 and Steve Hargan 3-6. Speaking of Tiant, he registered his 12th game of 10 or more whiffs. On the Twins side, Cesar Tovar is mired in a 1-30 slump.
