The Red Sox jumped to an early 5-0 lead off rookie Dick Nold making his second ever start. The Nats staged a comeback as Paul Casanova doubled in three to cut the lead. But that would be as close as the visitors would get as Dave Morehead and two relievers combined to give the home club a victory.

NOTES: Quite the series for Yaz, going 10-21 with 2 homers and 10 RBIs. Jose Tartabull certainly seized an opportunity since Tony Conigliaro went down, going 10-22 in the five games. Rice Petrocelli’s double in the 7th broke an 0-18 skid. The Sox pitchers like to contribute, after going 19 ABs hitless, they now have a three game hit streak. Dave Morehead won his third straight start.

STAR OF THE GAME: 2-4 2 RBIs
