The rubber game of the series went to the visitors on the strength of the bat of left fielder Willie Horton who drove in three off Jim Lonborg. Norm Cash went deep to deepen the cushion. Earl Wilson cruised into the 8th with shutout until Yaz put one into the right field bleachers to ruin the whitewash.

Manager Dick Williams sent Jim Lonborg out on shirt rest and the results were not pretty. The loss broke a personal 8 game winning streak having not lost since 6/30. He also registered a season low of strikeouts.
