FRIDAY AUGUST 11,1967

NEW YORK (41-66) @ CLEVELAND (58-53) game 1

STARTING PITCHERS

14X (9-6 2.38) 14Y (12-6 1.88)

On the first game of the twi-night doubleheader, it came down to one swing. Both starters were “En Fuego” and both teams could only muster three hits. Alas, it was that one extra hit by the Tribe that was the difference a third inning home run by Vern Fuller. A truly masterful pitching duel

NOTES: Steve Hargan gained his team leading 13th win. Now Steve has won 7 in a row. At this point, he is second in the league in ERA at 1.76. Yankees only hit was by Joe Pepitone. Yet the Yanks could do nothing with the 6 free passes they were gifted. Al Downing made just one mistake, leading to the loss. Al rung up every Indian except Don Demeter.
