The Yanks put up a four spot in the 4th off Lew Krausse as the first six batters reached base highlighted by a Bill Robinson homer and a Charley Smith triple. The Athletics had their chances off Steve Barber who seemingly was on the ropes in each and every inning only to be Houdini while going the distance with 9 hit shutout.

NOTES: First win as a Yankee for Steve Barber and his second shutout of the season, his other occurring three day before his trade to New York. In going the route, Barber had only one inning where he retired the side in order, the much used Kaycee bullpen hit two milestones. Diego Segui now has gone 18 innings without an earned run and Tony Pierce has a 19 inning streak.
