A critical error by Zolio Versalles in the 5th opened up the floodgates and allow the Yankees to build a 4-0 lead, which was far more than enough for Mel Stottlemyre who went the route scattering 6 hits while whitewashing the Twinkies. His battery mate, Jake Gibbs provided all the offense needed as the Yanks svoid being swept salvaging the getaway game.
