Cleveland seemed to have things in hand, leading 3-1 through 8 innings as Steve Hargan was dealing . Top 9, the Bosox came to life scoring three to take the lead on a Reggie Smith homer. Rookie Sparky Lyle came in to nail it shut only to have fellow rookie Vern Fuller take him deep to tie the score. The Indians put two more on but It looked like the game would go bonus frames when Pedro Gonzalez grounded to third, a sure double play ball that eluded Joe Foy allowing the winning run to score.
