The back end of a quick two game set, the DC bits looking for the sweep. Former ace Mudcat Grant toes the rubber for Sam Me,e’s squad while neophyte Joe Coleman goes for Gil Hodges.
Senators keep the momentum going as Saverine and Hank Allen single to open the game. One out later, Frank Howard did what he does best making it 3-0 Nats. Not to be upstaged, Ticar and Carew singled to start the bottom of the guest. Versalles chased them home with a two bagger and two batters later scooted home on Ron Clark’s RBI single. Washington took the lead back in the second when Brinkman walked and was bunted to second. Hank Allen doubled in the run. The lead lasted to the bottom of the third, erased by a two run shot by Killebrew. The Twins put it to bed in the 6th off Bob Humphreys, highlighted by a rbi single by Carew and a three run homer by Zolio Versalles. Twins salvage a split and Washington goes home winning 3 of 5 on the road trip
