Top 1, Don Wert walked and one out later, Al Kaline rocketed a McDowell fastball into the left field seats for a 2-0 lead. Top 2, Oyler singled but the next two whiffed. McAuliffe the doubled your left center for the third run. Bottom 4, Rocky Colavito got the hone club on the board with his first homer cutting into the lead. Top 5. Kaline got that back with a solo shot. Norm Cash did the same in the 6th. For good measure, Kaline went yard a third time a two run shot off Steve Bailey. Kaline had a chance to tie record in the ninth but Bailey walked him. McLain was on top of his game retiring 16 of the last 17 he faced.
