Washington cruises into the land of 1000 lakes feeling a lot better of themselves after winning 2 of 3 in SoCal. The Twins have hit a bad patch and look to rookie Jim Ollom to help. Nats counter with former Dodger Phil Ortega.
The Sens break from the game fast as three of the first four batters single producing the first run. Peterson made it 2-0 and Harrelson bumped it to 3 zip. Bottom W, Tovar lead off with a single and trotted home on a Rod Carew sky rocket. Loom settled down and had a clean second and third. In the 4th, an error by Clark opened the door but the Sens were kept off the board when Tovar nailed The Hawk at the plate on a short fly to right. Top 5 Ollom’s luck ran out as the first three batters singled to load the bases prompting Sam Mele to make a pitching change. Jim Perry faired no better, permitting two inherited runners to score on Ollom’s docket. Phil Ortega cruised into the 9th, when a walk and single put 2 on. Gil Hodges not wanting to snatch defeat from the clutches of victory brought in Darrell Knowles who got the last two outs to make it 3 out of 4 for the Senators.
