Yanks go for the sweep in KC but Jim Hunter will have something to say about it. New York employs another lefty, this time fireballs Al Downing.

Yanks go in order in their part if the 1st. Campaneris lead off with a single for the A’s the swiped second. Rick Monday delivered an RBI single and KC was off and running. Top 4, Tresh and Mantle had back to back doubles to tie the game and one out later, Whitaker put the Bombers ahead with another two bagger. Steve then raced home on Jake Gibbs first RBI, a single to right. Bottom 4, Cater singled and Charles was nailed on the shoulder but nothing came of it. A second a Tresh double and another RBI hit by Stevie Wonder made it a three run lead. The home club wasted doubles in the 6th and 7th as Downing set down the last 9 he faced for his first win of the season.

Nice sweep of the doubleheader by New York, giving the Yanks a four game winning streak. Steve Whitaker now leads the team with 13 RBI’s. Overall, he is hitting .468 as he platoons with Bill Robinson. On the other side, the Yanks shortstop and third basemen are hitting a mere .100 (12-120). Danny Cater has a nine game hitting streak.
