Back at it in the motor city as the Birds try to finish the sweep of the hometowners. Detroit is in the midst of their first losing streak, sliding further away from the Pale Hose who currently reside in the penthouse.
Top 1, Sparma got two quick outs then lost the plate walking the Robinson boys. John ‘Boog’ Powell then went upper deck for nice 3-0 lead. The Bengals came roaring back on McNally, Wert opened with a single and one out later Kaline also singled. Willie Horton punched one into shallow left for a run and Northrup laced one to right for another making this quickly one run game. A passed ball put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Freehan was gifted a free pass and the strategy initially blocked good as Cash whiffed. Light hitting Ray Oyler ruined the plan by singling to center for two more, eliminating the Baltimore lead, putting the home club up one. However, Sparma could not stand prosperity as he walked McNally leading off the 2nd. Aparicio singled but Snyder whiffed. Frank Robby then muscled up, putting one into the left center seats tilting the contest in favor of the Birds. Rattled, Sparma then walked Brooks and Boog giving Blefary the RBI chance of which he delivered. Bottom 3, McNally gave one back on an RBI double by Oyler. Bottom 5, Horton singled and chugged all the way home on a triple by Northrup which chased McNally from the game. Moe Drabowsky came on and Freehan drove Blefary to the edge of the wall, tying the game on a sac fly. After that the bullpens took over, Detroit with 7 scoreless innings and Drabowsky and Watt matching them for Baltimore. Top 10, Haney doubled then Epstein picked up an infield single. Aparicio walked to load the bases for Russ Snyder who delivered a Two run single putting the O’s back on top. Frank then crushed his second big fly of the game virtually putting the game out of reach. Eddie Fisher came in in the 10th guaranteeing the sweep.
His two homer game capped a terrific week for Frank Robinson. by going an extra frame, Brooks Robinson got a chance to extend his hitting streak, which he did. It now sits at 7games. Detroit now has dropped 4 straight. Their bullpen went 7 1/3 shutout innings before Gladding spit the bit in the 10th
