The sad sack Senators will try once one to get back in the left column, sending their best pitcher to the hill. His opposition is also winless so it should be interesting how this turns out
Wash got two on in the 1st before sputtering out. Ortega countered with three hitless, scoreless innings. Top 3, Saverine singled and two outs later Howard singles for runners on the corners. Men McMullen followed, launching one out to dead center putting the Sens up 3-0. Kaycee reached Ortega for singles in the fourth and fifth but nothing doing. Top 5, Saverine singled as did Valentine. Jim King punched a single to center for one run, then two outs later, Dick Nen singled for their fifth run. Ortega kept putting up goose eggs thru 7 but in the 8th, Gosger singled and raced home on a double by Roof. A free pass ended the evening fir a Ortega. Dave Baldwin got the last 5 outs, finally getting a win for the visitors.
First win in 15 games dating back into April 12. Both Howard and McMullen had big series, Hondo going 7-13 (.538) and McMullen 6-12 (.500) and 5 RBIs. Danny Cater extended his hitting streak to 7 games.
