In a reprise of the season opening series, the Sox, Red & White do battle in the Windy City. The pitching matchup is the same as game 2, although both Darrell Brandon and Bruce Howard hope to have more success this time.

Howard was very charitable to open the game as he issued free passes to Jose Tartabull and Joe Foy. Yaz put the first ball in play, singling to right to put the Beantowners on the board chasing Foy to third. Tony Conigliaro backed Pete Ward up to the warning track bring in the second tally. Bucky Brandon kept the Pale Hose off the board thru 4, only the 2nd causing trouble when Tommy Agee and Ward singled for first and second. A pop up abducted flys later the rally terminated. The next inning, Brandon was not as fortunate. Duane Josephson walked and Hansen singled. Seeing an opportunity, mgr Eddie Stanley sent Bill Skowron to pinch hit for Howard who just escaped a bases loaded predicament in the top of the inning. Moose tapped into a force, but Ken Berry picked up him and team driving in the Chisox first run. Top 8, the Red Sox rallied against Wilbur Wood, opening the frame with singles by Reggie Smith and Tony Horton. Two outs later with the runners still in place, Don Demeter pinch hit Don McMahon who relieved the previous inning. Wood drilled Demeter in the shoulder filling the sacks. George Thomas pinch hit for Tartabull and left everyone stranded flying out to left. Johnny Wyatt came on for the save, but issued a one out walk to Agee (who got 3 free passes on the day) who motored home on a Jerry Adair double tying the game. The contest went into bonus frames when neither team got anything done in the 9th. Bottom 10, Wyatt lost the plate walking the first two. A dribbler in front of the plate moved the two runners up a base. Smokey Burgess pinch hit for Bob Locker, a .300 pinch hitter in his two full seasons with Chicago. Smokey send ‘Em home happy with a single thru the drawn in infield giving the home team their fourth win.
