The Bosoxers look to even the score, sending promising Jim Lonborg against journeyman Fred Talbot. The Sox wasted no time getting going, Jose Tartabull singled on the first pitch he saw. Two fly balls later, Tony C sent one over the auxiliary scoreboard giving the visitors a lead they would never relinquish. Top three, two more crossed home, Tartabull once again singled as did Joe Foy, putting runners on the corners. Foy stole second running on Jake Gibbs. Yaz chased Whitaker to the wall for a sac fly and George Scott made it 4-0 singling Foy home. Top 8, a walk sandwiched two singles scoring one, chasing Hal Reniff from the game, Lonborg whiffed but Tartabull singled in the final run of the game. Lonborg was on top of his game as no Yank got past 1st until the 9th when the Yanks stirred up trouble in the 9th with 2 outs, a Gibson error taxing Lonborg. Dick Williams got Johnny Wyatt up but before he got warm, Lonborg walked a pair to fill the bases. Finally Big Jim fanned Horace Clarke to end the game.
