Angels continue their home stand hoping for better results with the Indians in town. Cuban fireballer Luis Tiant duels with grizzled veteran Jack Sanford. Former Halo Leon Wagner broke open the scoring with a long home run to right. The Tribe added two more in the 2nd when after 2 outs, Duke Sims doubled down the right field line. Larry Brown singled but Sims was held at third S Brown snuck into second. Luis Tiant ripped a single to plate the pair. Bottom 2, Rick Reinhardt singled and raced home in a one out double by Jose Cardenal. The Indians loaded the bases in the 4th, Sanford let off the hook when Tiant ripped into a DP. Bottom 4, the home team wasted a two out triple by Cardenal. In the 5th, Sanford got Davillilo but his luck ran out. Two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases, that is, until Chuck Hinton cleared them with a triple breaking open the game. Another old timer relieved Sanford, Lew Burnett’s, who grooved one that Sims did not miss. Three homers rounded out the scoring, Knoop for the Angels and Alvis and Whitfield for the visitors.
