The Sox resume their battle at Fenway in a matchup of two young righthanders. After a quiet initial frame, the homeowners loaded the bases in their half on a pair of free passes and an error. Disappointment reigned as Reggie Smith fanned. Top three the Southsiders grabbed the lead in a solo shot by Don Buford into Pesky’s porch. The Beantowners roared back in their part of said inning, putting up a three spot as Foy (walk) and Conigliaro chugged home on a George Scott double to dead center. One out later, Petrocelli shot the gap in right center to make it 3-1. The Chisox tied it back up with a couple more one inning later stringing together four singles, RBI’s awarded to Jerry Adair and a pinch hitting Moose Skowron. Top 6, Ron Hansen and Adair singles for a first & second setup. JC Martin singled but Hansen made the mistake of challenging Yastrzemski’s arm and got gunned down at the plate. Don Buford launched his second of the game into the home bullpen, giving the Pale Hose a lead 9th loading the sacks but Hansen dribbled one to the pitcher to extinguish the rally. Last licks for Boston also saw them put three ducks on the pond, but alas, pinch hitter George Thomas fanned, giving the victory to the visitors.
