Baseball made their way to New England as Chicago invaded venerable Fenway Park. The Pale Hose went in order in the Top of the first. The Beantowners picked up 2 single which were mitigated by a twin killing. Too 2, Gerry McNertney found the netting above the monster putting the Windy City team up 2-0. The Red Sox responded, tying it up on a two run bomb by Rico Petrocelli. Lonborg settled down, surrendering just 3 hits over the next six innings. The same could not be said of Johnny Buzhardt. Bottom 3, two outs sandwiched a single making it look like a routine inning. But Buzzy hit Tony C on the shoulder opening up the barn door. Scott singled driving in one as did Reggie Smith. That was enough for Chisox manager Eddie Stanky who summoned ex-Red Jimmy O’Toole to stem the tide. Rico greeted him with another single, making it 5-2 for the home team. Tony C. got his revenge in the 5th, finding Landsdowne St. off Lamabe upping the lead to 5. Boston added 6 more in the 7th and 8th Scott (SF) and Ryan (single) added two before a pair of two-run homers by Scott an Ryan put the game away. Bill Lanie’s gave up three while mopping up in the 9th, a Berry homer and a two RBI single by Jerry Adair doing the damage.
